Product Review – The Oura Ring

A few years back my husband and I wore Fitbit devices but after a short time I stopped wearing mine because I didn’t like sleeping in it. My husband was into his device but forgot to charge one day and never wore it again.

When I heard about the Oura Ring I was really excited because it seemed like it would be more comfortable to wear. However, when I checked out the design options that was a hard stop for me.

When I asked my husband if he liked the way they looked he was excited about metallic gray option so BOOM Father’s Day present.

Now that he’s been wearing it a few months here’s some feedback.

🇩 🇪 🇸 🇮 🇬 🇳

✅The sizing kit was very helpful for determining the shape and size desired.

✅The ring is comfortable and easy to wear even during sleep.

✅It only has to be charged about once per week.

✅Amazing technology for such a small unit

❌Not impressed with women’s models in terms of design

❌Some difficulty keeping the sensors oriented properly

🇩 🇦 🇹 🇦

✅The app is user friendly and visually calming.

✅Provides helpful feedback and suggestions (ie. to go to bed earlier)

✅Provides data on activity, heart rate variability, and temperature

❌Unclear if the REM and Deep Sleep are accurate

❌Probably underestimating sleep

For the price this is an incredible piece of technology. My husband absolutely loves it. As a surgeon and workaholic he says that it helps him realize he needs to go to bed earlier and he doesn’t get enough sleep.

My personal opinion is that wearables are a double edged sword. If you are a healthy person looking to track things like sleep, activity, and calories this is a great tool.

If you are suffering from sleep problems, this device is not going to solve your problems. You need professional help.

In my practice I use a medical grade device called actigraphy that accurately measures many of the same parameters and also includes light exposure. For sleep I find it much more useful than the Oura Ring.

Have you tried it?
